published torque curves?

There is a lot of verbage on this forum about how wonderful the low end torque of the 4.9 I6 is, but are actual curves available? I'd like to see torque vs RPM for the 4.9 and 5.0 of the 87-96 EFI's and of the 97 and newer V6.

If it's already on this forum, just tell me where. There is too much "torque" stuff to search through.

thanks

Part of what you want may be there. Took about as long to find as it did to pose the question. Besides this Forum, Google can be a good friend..Try it...you might like it.

I've googled this alot and not found very much. I'm looking for curves, for stock engines, that would have been published by ford or by automotive publications of the time. It's easy to find peak values, but I'm beginning to doubt the full RPM range curves exist, at least to the general public.

I suspect you are right about the publishing of the full curves. Some program like Desk Top Dyno might get you close with stock parameters plugged in but I've heard they don't produce figures for less than 2000 rpm.

I agree, I've searched google countless times for an actual dyno chart of a stock 300 (carb for me) and have never found one. I would love to see one if anyone has one.

Someone on this site posted some numbers for me many years ago for the EFI 300. It was a very knowledgable person on the site, but I can't remember who. Combined with the numbers from the Chiltons (hp and torque peaks) here is the list:

RPM, hp, torque
1000, 43, 225
1900, 92, 255
2000, 101, 265
2500, 124, 260
3400, 145, 224

Should be a lot of magazine articles and books with torque hp info on 302, not sure if curves though.

Hey thanks for the link Harte3. Good info. I sent a copy to my brother as he is looking at regearing his '94 Mustang, which is manual tranny 5.0 and supercharged. H also has a '82 5.0 manual tranny mustang that was just restored.

1978 to 1997 peak hp and torque. You can also figure out the hp at the torque
peak by multiplying the torque by the rpm and dividing by 5252!!

Nice chart Blue Beast. You can see how the hp and torque jumped with the EFI, which I attribute mostly to the split exhaust manifold and the long, torque tube intake runners.

You can't rule out the ability to keep the A/F ratio close because too much fuel can
quench the combustion temps which will kill power as will being way too lean.

Good point. Much better fuel control with EFI
