Hey all. I am thinking of putting a single high flow 3 inch cat and a single 12 inch glass pack on my 87 truck with a newer 300 in it. I have a JC whitney dual straght pipe cat back with two glass pack tips, but I am dumping them for 24 X 31/2 chrome angle cuts. What I plan on doing is putting the glass pack before the Y and cutting off the cats that I have now. What I want to know is will this give me enough back pressure? I also plan on getting a K&N filter too. I also want my truck to be loud. Any info is appreciated.
Why not run a Dual in/Dual out cat, and run duals form there back? Dual glasspacks didn't sound too bad on my truck, I don't know how much a cat would change the sound, but, It probably wouldn't be that much.

My truck has the pre converter and then another converter on it from the factory. From what I have seen and heard having these two cats really makes the trucks very quiet. My buddy has an 88 with a 302 that we cut the rear cat off and just put a Y with two 12 inch glasspacks on and ran it out the back. This made all the difference in the sound. It is really throty. I have knocked out my rear cat already but I want it louder and I don't want to buy headers. The cat that I am going to get is alot shorter than the one I have in the front, and is supposed to be high flowing.
I've got 2 1/2" duals, dual outlet headers, two 18" turbos and the same chrome tips that you are speaking of. Sounds great and still has plenty of torque. I was worried about killing the bottom end at first, but it has worked out well for me. Mike
