That's what the book says for 77 on.

The books says for the 73-76 the Pink 20 gauge wire is 61.5" long

The pic I posted is from the 75.

Something isn't right here

Resistor Wire

The resistor wire in question to my post is not the red/green wire with the fusible link but the one that goes with it into the terminal to the ignition switch.[/QUOTE]

HUH ?

That grey plug connector on the left goes in the ignition switch.

It must be the other red/green wire aka :The Pink Resistance wire

That pink wire in turn (see rubber connector) becomes a red green wire that runs to the ignition

I'll go check..right now.

EDIT:

Mil1ion,
First of all I want to thank you for taking the time in helping me sort this out.
Yes, the wire in the photo appears to be the one I am inquiring about.
Is this wire labeled " DO NOT CUT OR SPLICE"?
I found a 1979 truck at the salvage yard. I spliced/crimpped this wire to my existing harness (about 4" ).
The truck starts etc. but the wire in question feels warm to the touch when truck is running.
Is this safe? If not, what are my options?
Thank you again.

Yes that is the do not cut or splice wire.

I have always known them to be pink.

Resisting current is what heats them up. Normal.

The same with the steel resisitor wire for the fan motor.. is mounted in the heater plenum for air to pass by it to to keep it from burning up.

If the resistance in the ignition wire gets to high.. the wire insulation will burn.

I am hoping that I am good to go.
I have not driven the truck yet, but I have let it idle to normal operating temperature. The wire feels warm to the touch, but as soon as I turn the ignition off it cools down.
If the wire insulation were to "burn" would it have done so already?
