Battery Goes Dead

Post Battery Goes Dead

i had sears batery in my van since 2005 two years it has three dead cells
the charging system i had check before i got this batery the chargeing sys
seems to be fine or this a chep batery

Take battery back to Sears. There should be a warranty if you have your receipt and have charging system re-checked.

I would see what they say. Last time I got a Sears battery I remember there being a warranty for a few years. Never had a problem with it though.

Batery

when runing it;s 14.2 when off it drops down fast
receipt says 18 month full replacement warranty -72 month prorated warranty

14.2 shows alternator having good voltage. Also did test show if diodes were good in alternator? I learned this the hard way. had 14.3 volts, but couldn't figure out why battery would go dead every few days. Diodes were bad in alternator. Sears or Autozone should be able to tell you this. Was the battery load tested? If you go with pro-rated warranty you will pay some money, but not full price for battery which isn't so bad.

i don;t think i tested the diodes how can i tell if they are bad

Most good battery testers tell you. If you don't have one, Autozone SHOULD be able to tell you as well as load test your battery.

i have one but how do do it how do you load test

If your"battery tester" doesn't have big clips like on the end of jumper cables, then you don't have the load test capability.

i have one with the big clips it has a load button on the front

Push load button. If it fails load test then you need battery. load test must also be done with engine off.
