Battery.....when is it time to replace?

I just noticed during the last month that when attempting to start my truck (turning the ignition key) it doesn't do anything for the first 2-3 attempts. I try again, it doesn't do anything. And then after a second or third third time it starts right up. All dash lights come on each time, but engine doesn't turn over until after 2-3 attempts.

The battery is from Costco and has a date sticker of 12/13.
So it is 2 yrs/3mos old.

I checked all battery connections and made sure everything was tight. I don't drive the truck daily, about once per week.

Does this sound like a batery going bad? Ir what else?

Getting ready to go on a trip towing my trailer and was concerned about the battery. I guess I can remove the batt and take it down to the parts house and have them check it. Will they do a load test? Does batt have to be 100% charged?

Thanks

Yes they can do a load test but sounds to me like your starter solenoid is sticking while your there pick one up I think they're fairly cheap and takes all of 10 mins to replace while you already have the battery off

Sounds more like an ignition switch or solenoid problem than a battery problem.

In the event it was the solenoid or ignition switch, can it be bypassed/jumped at the solenoid to start (in an emergency)?

also, when you mention solenoid....are you referring to the starter relay or starter solenoid? The relay is small part on the firewall, correct?

Put a voltmeter on the battery terminals and have a friend try to start the truck.

A good battery should read about 12.5 V or more with no key in ignition and no lights on.

While cranking, the voltage should not drop below 12.2 V.

Replaced the starter relay (on firewall) and all is good! The relay was the problem. Battery is fine.

Thanks for the help!
