thanks baddad but i took an early trip to the junkyard this morning and got one for 1.00
BUT (there always weems to be a but)
when i went to time it today i discovered that the timing mark on the crank is at about the 5 o'clock position when #1 fires, not the 10:30 or 11 o'clock where the pointer is. so... whats up w/ that?
the motor isnt shaking. could it have been put on 180 backwards? i noticed that the mark shows at almost 5:00 which is exact opposite of 11:00 (where the pointer is)
if thats the case, could i just paint a new mark 180 opposite of the existing one and time it that way? i have it down by ear and it seems to be running ok. i ran it for the 20 minute break in, changed the oil and put about 5 miles on it yesterday running to wal mart and back.
No, you cannot install it 180* off. Something screwy there. If the outer ring was 180* off, the engine would be out of balance and shaking it's *** off.
