I have a 2004 reg cab long bed 4x4. The truck is good but the steering is not. I constantly have to adjust it. It just doesnt follow the road well and it seems so loose. Its somewhat hard to describe but it doesnt pull to one side but just needs constant correction. It only has 41,500 miles and i just got it aligned, has pretty new tires, got the tires rebalanced and rotated but still is not right. If this cant be corrected i will get rid of this truck but the rest is good. Thanks for the help
I'm guessing that it is feeling like you have bias supply tires on your truck. Did this just start? Perhaps you have a bad tire. Some manufactures have an advanced tire tester that can detect a broken steel belt within a tire.
no its done this since i've had the truck. I thought maybe it was the a problem with the rack and pinion. Is there an adjustment that can be made to it?
I'd try another set of tires one way or the other before dumping the truck over the issue. As long as all the tie rods and other steering/suspension components are tight, I'd suspect the tires.
Maybe someone would be nice enough to let you swap tires/wheels with them to see if the feel remains the same or even if the behavior shows up in their truck.
Front-end alignment may need tweaking even though it should be within spec after the recent alignment. Check service bulletins to see if revised alignment specs may have come down to correct it. I'm thing toe or caster.
yeah i was wondering if it was the way it was designed and i just had to get used to it. Glad to hear that from someone else. The guy at the dealer said my balljoints would need to be replaced within the next year.
