The BFG A/Ts that came stock on mine aren't half bad for OEM tires anyway. You usually get cr@p tires like the Conti's or Firestones, but these BFG's do OK in deep and compact snow.
Not too wild about the ice traction, but I can't have everything.
I just bought a 00 F250 7.3 4x4 extended cab, long bed. I am trying to get as much info as possible - options, axle info (gear ratio/limited slip), trailer towing package, heavy duty cooling, etc. I want to have all the fluids changed and need to know what differentials I have to get the correct fluid plus I plan to put a snow plow on it.
Any info you provide will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks..
Neil

Sorry, i didn't Get alot its to old to tell me weather or not its a LSD, you'll have to find out by 1. Reading the Axle Tab and seeing if there is a "L" on the Tag or 2. Get the Axl code off the VIN sticker. I'm sure teh Truck has 3.73 and it will take about 3.5 Quarts of 75w-140. If you have anyother questions message me.
Thank you so much for the info. So my truck has everything on that list? Problem is, I don't have the listed sunroof or electronic entry (I assume that is the touch pad on the door). I hope I have everthing else though. What is the nautical group option?
I have tried to read the axle code off of the door but I don't believe there is anything listed under axle. There is RC-13 right above axle.
My truck (in the signature below) has BFG Rugged Trail T/A's on it. It came that way when I got it used. I assumed they were the stock tire. This truck is low mileage and everything else was stock.
Did I make an incorrect assumption? So far I've found it handles really good in snow.
That is probably the best tire ford put on a truck (save the BFG AT on the ranger), and overall a very good tire IMO. I've had them on a few trucks and can't complain.
I had BFG Rugged Trail T/A's and hated them. The Cooper Discoverer M&S is an awesome winter tire. Probably the most popular winter tire I've seen in Alaska and for good reason. We've had them before and if I had stock truck it'd have them on it as well.
I have had BFG AT on my last two trucks and have been happy with them!! Been in all kinds of ice and snow from here in NNY to Alaska..and let me tell you there is more than just a little bit of ice adn snow in Alaska!!! took a 9,000 trip from Fairbanks, AK to Niceville, FL in NOV 2003!!! Took 5 days to make it out of Canada..glare ice the whole way and a bunch of snow on fifth day in lower B.C. before we hit Washington...everyone was off in the ditch and we just kept creeping along on the BFG in 4x4
I agree tires make all the difference, however, the LSD in my truck is worthless. I don't see how in any way it limits the amount of slip I have. In the rain, if I am pulling making a right turn I better not have cut anyone off. The right tire will spin till tom. The diff is probably my only real complaint with this truck.
Factory tires are hard, wear along time, and are generally worthless for anything worse than the grocery store parking lot in summer with a light load. I can't believe how many people run tires like these after the originals wear out. The make a fine trailer tire. Go out and buy tires like Coopers, Wild Country, Bfg, Mickeys, Procomp or the like in an MT tread. Most AT are just a poor compromise for me but some people like 'em.
firestone destination M/T these tires work great and i think i got them for 110 a peice
Same here! I LOVE these tires! Only had to lock it in 4WD once last year...and that was to pull my friend out of the ditch. And where the hell did you fin'd them for $110 ea?? And most importantly...what size? I paid $700 monuted and ballanced for my 285's.
