hey everyone
I was wondering is it worth it to install an aftermarket high performance coil on a basically stock '83 300. If it is then what is the best coil to use? Will the increased voltage allow me to run plugs with a bigger gap or should i just get some splitfires?
thanks

Boss300: Somewhere I recently read that one of the best things you can do is install a higher powered ignition to improve power and fuel mileage. Don't recall where I read that or whether a plug change is necessary (sidegapping or centerfire may help).
When my truck was idling good I had installed an MSD coil (1985 F-150) and upped the gap on my plugs to .047 (I think). I could probably have gone higher but I didn't feel like testing different gaps at the time. But, it made starting it sooooo much easier. I definitely recommend it.
Oh, and I also installed new plugs, wires and a brass terminal cap and rotor.
And when I get the carb fixed it should idle and run very very well.
