sounds like ford should have stayed away from CAN just a little while longer - or maybe its the mechanics of the cluster
From what people have described, it's either a bad soldering/mounting technique on whatever surface-mounted integrated circuit is on the PCB, or some other manufacturing issue. I don't think it's a design issue.
My truck did this twice over the holidays, stuck at 90 km/h (55mph) when shut down. Dropped it off today at the dealer. However it only did it when the truck was extremely cold (outside for more than 5 hours) and I started it ran for a minute or two and started driving slowly.
PS: to reset your speedo to zero instead of 90 km/h turn ignition off, hold down trip button and then turn ignition to position 3???, (position before cranking). You will then have activated the test sequence, first test is sweep guages. everytime you press the button another test will appear on you digital readout in the instrument cluster.
It's the cluster. I just had mine replaced on my '05 Crew Cab. The speedo and the tach would do the same thing. Anyway, I hope changing the cluster fixed it.

But what do I know?
Interesting and completely believeable too... i did my first surface mount part in a toaster not that long ago, it was tricky
Picked up my truck from the dealer and they have ordered a new cluster for it. It is under warranty so no charge. I would suggest that you get your replaced before the warranty runs out.

How long did they keep your truck? And how soon will the replacement come? I still need to bring my truck in to the dealer.
Mine was supposed to call me yesterday and arrange for me to drop it off so they could check it out. Every day this week my tach has been acting weird, and one day the speedo was goofy. It is only happening on my way to work, and it has been extremely cold in the mornings...
Since the weather has gotten close to the 40s, here in Illinois. My speedo is working perfectly again. I never had a chance to bring my truck to the dealer. When it gets warmer out, I'm going to trace the wiring and put some dielectric grease on the connections. Maybe that will fix the problem.
mine did it too, but it got stock and wouldn't move at first. then it would move, but it was 40mph off. After the weather warmed up, it went back to normal. Was it cold when it happened to you?
There is a TSB about the clusters, the problem was (according to the people I talked to that build the clusters for FORD) a chip that they were supplied with from another vendor, don't you love world markets. Cold did exaggerate the problem and if you swing by your dealer while it's stuck that's usually about all the information they'll need to take care of it.

if i explain to them that it has been stuck, will they address the problem? or does it have to be stuck when i bring it in?
Depends on how well you now the service writer. A few will take you at your word but the first step of any warranty claim is for the repair shop to verify the complaint. Seems fair to me since EVERY manufacture has MANY service bulletins on a particular vehicle and if all it took was to say there was a problem and you'd get free repairs, there would be no manufacturers, (or maybe there needs to be less people trying to get something for nothing).
ANYWAYS, if you can stop in and show them, they should be able to take care of it.

this covered under the 36k mile warranty or the 100k mile?
