All truck are wired for a tach. The only difference is the cluster.

77 is right, having a tach or not makes no difference to anything. A common mod for these trucks is to swap a tach'd cluster into your non-tach'd truck, while swapping your speedo/odo to maintain proper odo reading.

HOWEVER

It is important to get a cluster for your year truck. Some years overlap but just because the cluster LOOKS the same doesn't mean it will work correctly. The cluster electrics were modified over a number of years, so for the least headaches and best results, stick with one from your specific year.

Also, there is a tech article under articles/specs that details the swap.

how would we get the year info added to the current article. the article says to USE SAME YEAR, but wouldn't hurt to list compatible years

My Tach

Apparently I must be the odd one out on that... I have a 96 F-250 and my instrument cluster came from a 95 F-150 and mine has worked perfectly. Then again my truck is not ODB II either
