The AIH has nothing to do with cold starts, so removing it won't hurt anything. It's only purpose is to reduce white smoke during extended cold idle periods. But it's effectiveness at actually reducing any smoke is subject to debate. When I removed mine, I saw zero difference in white smoke, so in my opinion the AIH is totally useless.
