Ford Heavy Half Ton

New to this site, but would like some advise on the following. I've got a stock 2004 F150 supercrew. Love the truck but need to start some multi-tasking with it, namely, light duty snowplowing & water tank (approx. 1700lb.) hauling. Need some advise on suspension mods, ie., air-bags, front spring upgrades, etc. Also am considering programming chip for improved mileage / torque. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Thomas D.

For those usages I would say to think very carefully about trading for a
Super Duty. You will likely be money ahead over trying to upgrade a 150.

Welcome to FTE Thomas D. I am not sure if Ford even recommends plowing with the Supercrew. I know that the major plow manufacturers will NOT install plows on new trucks, without the proper factory certification. I would look into that first, and see where you stand in the eyes of the law.

I agree w/ the others- buy a cheap old 3/4 ton truck with a snowplow already on it. You can get an old one and beat on it/let it rust, etc. You might be able to do the water tank thing stock occasionally, but again, this is better suited for a 3/4 ton.

good luck -jim

I occasionally will have a water tank in the back of mine. It's a 300 gallon tank that I do not fill up all the way. Especially if Im going to be going down the road. I will put about 150 gallon in it. The suspension carries it fine and it drives just fine. The problem is any motion, either forward or side to side from turns is VERY noticeable.

If you are looking to do any heavy hauling I would install air bladders for your rear suspension. I put it on my superduty and adjusted accordingly I haul 15,000-20,000lbs without sagging in the rear end. Plus it will tripple the life out of your leaf springs. Definatly worth the 250 bucks and only takes and hour or so to install.
