Looking for input on a lift for excursion. I need 10-12" of lift. I see a lot of excursions on the net with big lifts. Are they simply stacking an 8" lift to achieve this? No one seems to sell bigger than 8" Anyone have any advice for me? Does anyone here have a 10 or 12" lift?
WOW 10 - 12 inches is going to be a large vehicle. From my personal knowledge most lift that are above 8 - 10 are usually custom built lifts from a knowledgable builder. I think out of the box 8 is the largest for our beasts the X. Where are you from? Do you now of any custom builders. It is important to use a reputable person being that is very large and you want quality. Also be prepared to spend a boat load to achieve this.
NJ is right, most of the kits (almost all) above 8 inchs are custom made. But i could of sworn that ive seen a 10 inch kit. But either way, if u decide to lift ur ex, dont stack blocks! And if ur looking to achieve a height that tall then make sure that u dont put 1 big *** block between the axle and the leaf spring as it will cause less axle warp.
Ieat is !00% correct. Most 10 inch lifts are for F250 and F350 . For some reason x not included. Also I you do go large and need to stack you blocks as most kits will give you an additional bolck to bring your rear to the proper height make sure to have them welded together. Also anything above 8inches forget about the block method you are going to need some serious springs, longer brake lines, arms, ttraction bars and a solid sway bar. The rear of the X is much heavier then that of a pickup.
I just had a F450 sway bar customized to fit my X. Goo dluck and let the forum know if you need more information.
If i was liftingh my truck period, i dont care if it was two inchs of lift, i still wouldnt use blocks period!! and i have my reason to. Last weekend, my axle came loose, so loose that u could get under the truck and move the U-Bolts with ur hands! It was scary because when u drove down the road, u literally felt like u were floating haha. But every i accelerated from a dead stop, not matter how much throttle i gave it, u could feelthe rear axle shifting. This summer i plan to remove my blocks that acme with the fabtech kit and replace them with a full 5 inch leaf spring. No more axle warp and no more loose axles.
Now if i were doing a lift like the OP is doing, i would go with a full leaf spring set up in the rear. Example: if ur lifting ur truck 10 inchs, i would try to go for 11 inchs of lift in the rear or a 11 inch leaf spring. And the reasson why i say 11 inchs is because from the factory, the rear end is 1 inch taller. So therefore u need 10 inchs of lift in the front and 11 in the rear
Wow I have never heard of that. I chekc my truck out o a lot so I would most likely see it coming loose. The only thing I dont like about the larger springs is the ride. It becomes extremly stiff. Also Ieat don't you mean 11 in the front and 10 in the rear if the rear sits higher stock.
No u want the rear to sit higher for towing purposes. If u do 11 in the fron and 10 in the back then the rear will sit lower. It looks really bad, espcially if u are parked on a hill. Look in my gallery, i have a 4 inch lift from fabtech. It lifted the front end 4 inchs. ANd the blocks that i have lifted the rear 3 inchs. Now I measured between the top of the tire and the top of the wheel well. The front measure 39 inchs and the back measured 38 inchs. When towing it makes the rear end sag worse instead of having the truck be completley level with lets say 600 pounds of tounge weight (if u had the rear end 1 inch taller then the front). So in order for me to fix this problem, i need to go out and buy 5 inch leaf pack. If i bought a four inch leaf pack, the rear end would be completely level with the front. Now if i bought a 5 inch leaf pack, the rear end would be 1 inch taller then the front (which is the way it came from the factory).
OH ok I see what you are saying now. I am surprised you are sagging. My procomp system dint do that to mine. Even with towing you dont notice to much sag. Maybe becuase I went up 6 inches instead of the 4. Not really to sure on that one. Your truck still looks good.
If you are going to put the $$ into a quality I would also seriously consider some sort of rollcage. The nature of the beast is that a vehicle of that height is seriously topheavy, and I've seen how the A pillars on these collapse, and the lift is only going to exacerbate that. My vote is if you are going to lift it, spend some $$ and have them weld in a solid cage and some 5 point harnesses. IMHO
custom is the way to go..i haven't seen anything over 8 that is not custom.assuming your going to be towing and not much off roading i would go with a stiff setup and long end links for the front and rear sways.mine is very stiff but there is NO sway or wander whatsoever.just depends on what your looking for
