I am replacing almost the entire cab floor in an f1 (ex for the back 6 or7 inches and the lower part of he fire wall were the pedals go) . The replacement panels are 4 separate pieces: two floor pans that I purchased center support and panel that fits under the seat both I made.
There is a pretty good fit ,this time, to the pieces. (I ripped all out last weekend and started over. This time I ordered a transmission hole cover from Hot Rod;s Trucks and eliminated my ugly homemade one.
This long story leads to my question. Will the floor or be strong enough with the 4 pieces welded together?
I used 16 GA for the homemade pieces .Don't think the purchased pans are more than 18 GA. It as though something l8ike 1" sq. tubing running front to back , under the floor will be required to tie all the pieces together. But I have never replaced a floor before. All advice welcome,
If you maintain all the original floor brace positions and weld all the pieces together it will be as strong as the original or maybe even better if you used heavier material and add extra braces (not really necessary though). Drill 1/4" holes in your floor panels where they cross over your braces and then weld through the hole to secure it to the floor braces. If you need to screw/pop-rivet your panels down to the floor braces to keep everything tight and in place before you weld. After its welded down good, remove the screws/pop-rivets and weld these holes up too.
