I will double check fluid level right away. If all is ok I will keep the fingers crossed for now. All has been ok the rest of this weekend and today so far.
Update. I have had this problem with my transmission come up a couple weeks ago again but by putting it in 1st or 2nd gear directly or into reverse. After several attempts it was suddenly fine. Until this morning. Drove the 6 miles to work having to put the tranny in neutral at all stop lights then dropping to 1st gear and working my way up to Drive. As stated previously I am no tranny mechanic but I am 100% convinced that the TC is staying locked in. It gives all the symptoms people talk about when they do the TC lock mod. If you leave it manually locked and come to a stop it will stall. That is exactly what mine is doing. Anyone have any thoughts?
There are several potential causes. Is the OD light flashing? If so, there's a code stored that will give a clue as to what's wrong.
It could be a bad torque converter clutch solenoid. It could be a short in the wire to the solenoid. It could be a stuck valve in the valve body. It could be a bad torque converter, but that's not likely. Usually when the torque converter fails it won't lock.
OD light is not blinking. Do you think this is something I can tackle? I am an ok backyard mechanic. I do have a full manual. I do not have anywhere indoors to work on it though. Supposed to be cold and windy this weekend. Highs in the single digits. Lows below zero. Would a local shop be able to easily diagnos this?
Why don't you just give John Wood, or BTS a call, and ask the experts? Either one of those fellows will have a pretty good clue as to whats really up with your trans.
