Your headlight switch has a dimmer (reostat) in it to dim your dash lights. At the end of this coil of wire there is a parking pad that acts as full bright for your dash lights, and a switch for your dome light. Ford switches are well known for snagging this reostat coil and deforming it. If you twist hard enough the switch will work, but you dash lights my not. The problem is most likely in the switch. Along this topic. My dome light only works with the switch and the passenger door, not the driver door. Would this be in the door switch? And when I turn on my headlights my dash and marker lights go out and vica versa, I have to fiddle with it for a little bit to get them both to go on simotaniously. Is this the light switch?
The first symptom you have is your driver's door switch. Time for a new one. I special ordered both door switches through NAPA - not to expensive either. Sounds like you have some short searching on the second problem.
on these lines, does anyone know where you can get a replacement clear cover for the dome light, the one that i have is a milky color and i would like to get a clear one and the local ford parts depot doesnt carry any.
i have the same problem only mine wont work at all. its a good light bulb and i took the whole thing down and theres no loose connection so ill have to play with the switch
ok i have a question for ya all. it sorta has to do with this. in my 78 f100 sometimes when driving at night only the left part of the instrument panel will light up. nothing from 60k to the right of that would light up. the entire left side works tho. some help? what can i do to fix this, cause it's really annoying driving at night.
any help will be apreciated.

rayvin_: What year is your truck, and what style light does it have? If it's an 80-86 with the dome light only, a 96 Ranger uses the clear cover, and it should replace yours.
