Hey Guys - Did my hutch and harpoon mods today- Got everything back together but a couple problems. The aux. filter that comes with ITP kit ,( Baldwin 1212 ) do I need hose clamps on either side of these barbed fittings ? Kit didnt have them or mention them but I thought it strange. Also how do I remove fuel supply line from stock fuel pump. I have the kit of the special plastic removal tools and they worked fine on the top of tank fittings but I cant figure this one out? Thanks, Bill
Hose clamps are not required on the filter due to the extremely low pressure - it's on the suction side of the pump - but you can install a couple if it makes you feel better (some of us like belts with our suspenders).
Regarding the line removal from the pump.... hmmm.... I don't recall having any trouble with that one... in fact, I can't even remember fooling with that line at all, even though I know I had to. I believe that the quick disconnect line tools should work there like they did elsewhere, and then you simply hose clamp the new fuel line to the pump fitting.
If I'm mistaken... someone will correct me before long.
Pete- Thanks for the quick response- I tried the blue removal tool 3/8" and had no luck -Almost like theres no room to even get it in there. Am I supposed to be using the larger blue (about 7/8) removal tool maybe? Any help is much appreciated as Im gonna try to finish her up tonight and make sure its gonna start & run. Thanks
if you look at it close..you can see a locking clip that slides down through the conection..push that clip out with your finger or small screw driver while pushing the line into the pump..the clip should come right out and line will slide off..

i just went out and looked at mine again..(i second guessed my self) i can not remeber if the clip does come out or if you just squeeze the 2 ends of the clips together and pull the line off..my clip is gone right now..but i do know you do it with your fingers and not a fuel line tool..and it does not come off hard at all...
Thanks Ron - That mod wasn't the most fun Ive had in awhile. 6 hours for me and a helper - Just hope it works after I get done . Did cut the vent line off while in there. Was only able to cut off @ 3" but I figure thats gonna fill that much quicker.
I just ripped the clip off mine. No need to worry about breaking it since it's replaced with the new hose & clamps anyway.
gzzzz..i took the time to zip tie a baggy over then ends of the lines..lol
man it bugs me now..i know it wasnt that hard to do and it was done with me fingers...the clip ether came out of the line..or it sqeezed together and pulled the line off with the clip...
you will be a lot better 3" shorter then you was if it was still stock.... it will take a good 75 to 100 miles to really make a differnce....so dont be too upset when you first run her..wait a day or so and you will hear and feel a differnce..
The lines on the fuel filter on my Ranger were the same way. I always had to screw with them forever it seemed like. It's funny -- I messed with this one for about 15 secs, and that's when I thought "WHO CARES!! It ain't gettin' used again!!" and ripped the clip out.... lol
Guys -Got it all finished up last nite- Went this am and filled up -so far no leaks.- Gonna take a ride this afternoon and see how she sounds. Seems a little quieter to me already. Fill up was a snap- Got within @ 2 gallons to being full before pump shut off - Used to be 5-6 gallons. Ill post after the ride and let you all know if any quieter. Thanks for all the Good Help.
This is whats confusing me about this... cause I'm sure you guys care
I believe I have a 35 gal tank on my 00 F350 4x4 LB. When I drive to get fuel with the fuel light on... I start the pump, hop back into the truck to calculate my MPG and when the pump shuts off... its at 35 gallons. Is my tank larger? When I heard about this mod... I filled, let the pump shutoff... waited, and then tried to squeeze more fuel in and it really didn't take much more at all. Is that what hacking that line is all about? I understand the quieter running is because of less air in the system, but actually filling the truck has me boggled.
Jack -Sounds like your vent line might have been cut off by previous owner maybe- These trucks are bad for filling tank to full because vent tube stuck down into fuel tank about 6" from factory. Harpoon Mod is to cut the vent line in the fuel tank for faster fill ups. The other in tank mod is the Hutch which moves the return line in the tank away from the supply(intake) to eliminate air bubbles in the fuel to the injectors. Hope this helps.
