Has anyone purchased this item from LMC. I recently did and replaced my 28 yr old window and have leaks everywhere. The gasket doesnt fit right and is pulled away on all four corners!! I really dont wanna go caulking the crap out of it as it makes for a mess and shouldnt be necessary... Any input, ideas?
I bought a sliding back glass from the local junkyard from an 80s Ford truck for my '79. From '73 to '96 is the same. I knocked out the glass using my hands with a bit of careful pressure, plus a screwdriver. For $40, I got it all plus the undamaged seal. All I did was buy a sliding window clip for $7 from Canadian Tire, and apply some oil for it to slide properly.
Selected the best one out there. Already tinted glass with very nice aluminum casing.
I bought my slider from the local glass company. The installer was reluctant to use the seal that I bought from Dennis Carpenter. But after he installed it, he said that was one of the best aftermarket seals he has ever seen.
For what it is worth, I put in a C.R. Lawrence window (same one LMC and others all seem to sell) into my '74. I also used a new window gasket from a local parts company here. The gasket leaked like he!!. After talking with a local glass shop (which will install my windshield whn the painting is done) I found out that most of these older trucks need a black silicon sealant (only a little) along the groove that seals/locks the window in place. It is common and that came straight from the professional glass company.
