common air leak problems around the front heater core. the foam seal does not stay in place and also breaks down and deteriorates
also, some non Motorcraft heater core designs have higher air flow restriction
measure the temp of your front heater core with hot engine at 1500 rpm. it should be within 10d C of the thermostat rated temp.
