Does the 300-6 benefit highly from a less restricted air intake system like a K&N filter? Being a low RPM torque motor, it seems like a FIPK or similar system would not be worth the trouble and money like it might be on a higher-revving 302 or 351.
I put in a K&N in my six. Thought it might help with fiel economy. I was getting 26.5 miles per gallon before. I didn't notice a fuel improvement, but there was a acceleration increase(10%). If I don't have to clean K&N filter for 1 year as they advertise, the fifty dollars I spent will pay for itself in 2 years. That's how often I change air filters.
Boomer95, Did you get the drop-in replacement or the cone style filter? 26.5 mpg is real good gas mileage. How do you do it? My best average is around 18 with combined driving. It don't seem to matter if I use 87 or 93 octane fuel, but I always try to get my gas at a name brand station like Exxon or Amoco.
Thanks
if u wanna be crafty make ur own, its alot cheepper, i spent 30 bucks on piping and i used a cone filter off of a 99 expedtion(it was part of an airaid intake) that we had. i think for 30 bucks over 160 and some improvement its well worth it.
Are you kidding, 26.5 good mileage, thats outrageously excellant. What have you done to get that kind of mileage? I was thinking if I could muster up 20 MPG I would be very pleased! Let us in on your secret please! You wouldn't be talking kilometers per gallon would you?
I believe something is amiss with the 26.5 MPG. The sticker on my 95 and the 93 I previously owned both gave up only 20 MPG on the highway. When the 93 was brand new it got 20 on the nose. My 95 gets around 18 on the highway now and I think that is pretty good.
Hey guys, I would like to hear what you'all would have as for as opinions on a ram air kit? I had someone suggest putting ram air on my 300 I-6, said it might give me some improvement on my gas milage and maybe a little on hwy acceleration. I am not sure how it would work as my truck is carburated(1 bbl.). Any thoughts?-AMT By the way, that 20's fuel milage boggles my mind. I am only getting 13mpg with OD and a 3.08 rear axle.
