I have a 94 ranger and the lights are not as bright as i would like them to be. The bulbs i think i have in there now are 55/65 (or whatever the OEM one are) are not bright enough. The low beams are not all that good and i feel like i wanna drive around with high beams on alot more but don't. I drive on back roads a good bit with some city driving aswell. I have heard of silverstars and was woundering about those. how are they over the OEM one u had in. I have added some offroad light which are 55watts each and they seem to help out with some more light. I was looking at some http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/I...D:100000205244 100/80 bulbs but was not sure about them.

thanks for any help.
The silverstars are garbage. Any bulb rated the same wattage as the stock (55/45w) 9004 bulb will put out around the same lumens. The silverstar bulbs just make the light coming from the bulbs appear whiter. I've never had a silverstar bulb last more than 6 months either, and for the cost, the best alternative is aftermarket higher wattage bulbs. I was getting about 1.5 years out of good aftermarket 80/100 watt bulbs.
My ranger's headlight wiring looks 10x better and beefier than what I'm used to seeing on GM cars for similiar bulbs. I'd say you'd be fine with upgrading the bulbs without worrying about the wiring harness.
well i was on jc whitneys website looking at the lights and the fittings. I was looking at the 9004 lights/fittings and it's the fitting i need to plug in but the lights not as bright as i wanted. so i looked at the 9007 which has the power i want 65/55 and it's a different fitting but it says it will fit my truck 94 ranger but i can't see how b/c of the fitting. any help ?
9004 light with the fitting i need
9007 but wrong fitting but says it will fit. help ? but i looked at the high temp HEADLIGHT SOCKETS and it's the same fitting for above. wrong light in the pic ?

The Silverstars are not brighter than a conventional halogen. By blocking out part of the yellow spectrum, they create the illusion that they are brighter by making the light seem whiter. Blue light has the horrible characteristic that it scatters. It appears to be bright, but it glares off any wet surface, it scatters back to the drivers eyes in fog and rain, and reduces the ability of oncoming traffic to see.
I hate it when other people drive by with those seemingly bright headlights, and if I don't like it, I am sure not going to do that to other people. Yellow light provides good overall nighttime visibility and does not have much of an adverse effect to night vision, improving your ability to seem things just outside the cutoff. It does not glare as much as blue light, and tends to cut right through rain and fog.
The best thing you can do for your headlights is:
1: Clean and polish your lenses. This process restores the clarity to the lens and allows the maximum amount of available light to reach the road. Use a quality polishing kit. Once you have polished the lens, treat it and hand polish with a product such as Flitz that will help prevent the lens from oxidizing.
2: Adjust the alignment of the headlights. Proper alignment ensures the light casts the correct distance down the road without shining into other peoples mirrors. Where the light sines makes a huge difference in the visibility.
3: Use a quality halogen bulb such as Sylvania Xtravision.

The 9007 Will work, but you'd have to swap the wiring IIRC, and it won't make the beam pattern any better.
well today i picked up some Silverstar 65/55 and when i pulled the old bulbs out they were the same 9007 65/55 so now i have to return them tomorrow and the way back from work.
owell ill just pick up the 9004 XENON 100/80 when i return the other ones. do you guys think it will be to bright to have in the city?
I also picked up some lens cleaner (some plastic cleaner stuff) and they lenes are alot more clean looking and i can see "inside" them alot better as much as brighter i don't know yet. i have not taken any back roads w/it.
Woops.. I guess I jumped to conclusions. The 93+ Ranger uses 9007 Bulbs. If you wanted to use a 9004 it would be a step backwards, and require the wiring modification. Just get whatever bulbs you're getting for 9007 apps.

Remember that if you do go with a higher wattage bulb, which is the best you can do for making the vehicle brighter, you should use relays to get power directly from the battery without melting the headlight switch. The stock bulbs will burn out the headlight switch. They will also make the stock bulbs brighter, by eliminating as much resistance in the wiring as possible. You can buy a prefabricated harness with the relays. It is a better route than trying to make your own.
I guess I just have much better luck with headlights than you guys do. I've had the same pair of SilverStars in my Ranger for over 2 years now and only thing to burn out was one fog light bulb but considering my wifes Focus burned up an OEM fog light bulb sooner than that I don't think its too bad. I did just transfer my first set of Silver Stars to my F350 and put a new pair of Silver Star Ultras in my Ranger and didn't notice much difference. I have silverstars in my F350 now, in my focus(headlights and front turn bulbs) and all the lights on the front of my Ranger except the bulbs in the amber lenses. I had a set of High wattage APC blue bulbs in my 97 F350 (yeah, they sucked!) and it kept burning up my wiring going to the headlights so I would stay away from those. Like everyone else said, make sure lenses are clean and clear and get a good set of bulbs. Some on here don't like the silver stars but I love them.
id like to get a set of bulbs that they put in beemers. i met on the other night and i flashed them to put their lights down, and they were. those were some bright lights
