BMW uses HID Xenon lamps with movable reflectors.

Something similiar I had built for my car Hella 90mm low beam projectors and hella 90mm free form capsules for hi. they utilize the h9 bulb that puts out roughly 2500 lumens at highway voltage. thats roughly 5000lumens on per two bulbs. When all 4 lights are on there is 10,000 lumens on the road of great light I can see

BMWs are also blinding to oncoming traffic, and you can spot them from at least a mile away. They are brighter by sheer power. And BMW has yet to prove that they are safer than a comparable halogen light. Remember, that blue light impairs your ability to see things outside the illuminated area.

stock HID setups can appear that way because they usually have a leveling device that is supposed to level the headlight unit. So bumps usually cause the units to move up and down, which would throw light under the cutoff shield in your vision.

Yes blue light is not good, but realize, OEM HID by LAW cannot emit blue light. All OEM HID are rated at 4300K IIRC. The blue you see is a by product of the projector design.

I replaced my oem bulbs with silver-stars in june 2002, 1 of them burnt out NOV 8 2007, i replaced them both with another set of silver-stars, I like the whiter color.

There was a kit available to change the high beam setup so both high and low beams would come one when you turned on the brights.

that's a bad idea. Think about how much heat a halogen bulb emits. Turning on both filaments for an extended time could result in failure to bulb and damage to housing if it explodes.
