Does anyone know how to identify the Ford TSB numbers from the ones supplied on the TSB database from the NHTSA website? I found several I wanted to look at, so I took the info I got from the TSB link on www.ford-trucks.com to my local Ford dealer to get copies of their bulletins. The service guy pulled out a couple of the TSB binders and showed me that the numbers I had were completely different from the ones Ford catalogs the bulletins by. He said he had no way to cross reference the two numbers, but if I could come up with the Ford numbers, he'd be happy to supply me with copies. Ford's numbers are usually four digits (ie: xx-xx), while the NHTSA's are about 12 characters long. Any help would be appreciated!
I emailed the NHTSA weeks ago & asked them about the way they derive their TSB numbers , So far no response & I dont really expect one either . NHTSA is a typical govt agency . If they can show how easy it is to flip a SUV or how many crash test dummies fly thru a windshield they seem to be pleased with that . Ive used Alldata to check various TSB's , they list their TSB as they come from the manufacturers & they are accurate . A lot of the NHTSA Tsb numbers dont even match any manufacturers numbers or titles , Esp Ford . I think whats going on is that if NHTSA get a number of complaints about a particular problem they go ahead & issue one of their crazy number Tsb's regardless of whether the manufacturer is aware of a problem or not . If you want a reliable source of Tsb info Id suggest getting Alldata as a reference . NHTSA is a waste of our tax money as far as Im concerned . The insurance companies love them because every time they say a particular vehicle has some safety issue , regardless of what they deem safe , the insurance rates go up for that vehicle .
Thanks Paul! I'll check that out. Is there a way we could get the link changed on this site to go to alldata instead of the NHTSA databank? It would probably a lot more useful to the users of this forum.
The thing is a Tsb is useless unless one can view the contents of it . NHTSA gives a brief outline , Alldata just lists the Tsb numbers & titles . With Alldata you have to pay but you get current , updated info plus all the repair info for your vehicle for a reasonable price . There is no place that I know of in cyberspace that lists tsb's for free . In fact Honda / Acura & BWM wont let Alldata have their tsb's for the Alldata Diy . Ill ask Ken if he will create a link to Alldata .
