Lock Cylinder busted out

On the 2000 F350 the passenger side door handle had the lock cylinder punched ou t of it before we bought the truck.

Now looking to replace the cylinder I am running into problems.

NAPA sold me a replacement but it is the wrong one took that back they suggusted a lock smith the one in our area is;

A An *******

and

B Says to call Ford get out.

Ford says they only rebuild them and that the kit is 60 bucks and they have to do it at the shop there.

So now here is what I see as options

1. Let Ford "rebuild it" on a time and materials basis reliezing that the cylinder is pretty much trashed.

2. Try to find another lock smith who isn't an @ssh@t

3. Install another door opening / locking system I'm not keen on the "plastic" door handles as my first line of defense to begin with.

4. Get a cylinder from a wrecking yard.

Going to start looking around tuesday to see what my options are but thought I'd check in here first.

I chose option #3 when someone decided they liked my stereo more than I did.

Add Me to the Door Handle Victim's Club

I ended up purchasing a Chrome-Plated Solid Billet Aluminium Door Handle Set from BMI. Got 'em at 4Wheel Parts for $300. I chose a set without lock cylinders (they are actually for the rear doors on a crew cab or Ex) and I just use the remote to unlock the doors.

You can buy a set that just has the drivers side lock as well. This doesn't solve your locksmith issue though. Sorry.

Yep though the link contained a complete set that appears to have the lock cylinders with it. So trying that.

I had 2 do this as well

Get the key code from the dealer with your vin. Follow the directions for building the cylinder. It comes with the different tumblers so you can use the same key. Watch those small springs, they are a pain in the ***. I used a small pick to hold them in place. Im assuming the door lock cylinders are the same as the ignition cylinder. That was what I built. Good Luck

Nothing worse than a thief. No matter what you do, they always come up with a new angle to steal your things.

It's not hard to build the lock cylinder, all you need is a micrometer. Its real easy. Just take your time.

I once got a guy breaking into my old truck so I let the dog out after him. He went running down the street with the dog right behind him . The dog came back 20 minutes later with a mans shoe in her mouth. I hung that shoe up on one of the racks on my truck for all to see. No dog food for old Nellie that night I cooked a nice piece of steak. Sometimes man's best friend is better than an alarm system
