On the tailgate, I am missing key to the key cylinder that rolls down the window and locks the tailgate. Should I get a lock smith to make me some keys because I also need them for the doors themselves. All the keys are long gone.
I can get the replacements for the doors with keys for $25.
Not sure what to about the tailgate one?
Typically, the doors and ignition are keyed the same and the tailgate and the glove box are keyed the same in a late-model full-size Bronco. Square key for doors and ignition. Round key for tailgate and glove box. Earlier model years had doors and tailgate matched with the round key ONLY able to lock/unlock the glove box. If you don't have ANY of the keys then you don't have much choice but to call the locksmith or replace the cylinders all the way around.
The cylinder in the tailgate is nothing more than a switch actuator consisting of a standard tumbler with a paddle bolted to the shaft. Turning the key one direction actuates the "down" switch while turning it the opposite way actuates the "up" switch.
Thanks for the clarification.
Ya I have some keys and I remember trying them but I am pretty sure none of them worked.
Ya the tailgate thing makes sense.

Early FSB had one key for everything, my 78 has a key for the doors, tailgate, glovebox, ignition, AND the locking hood release i had on there before.
Best solution depends on the year of your Bronco, and your op doesnt indicate. Also depends on what you DO have for keys. I'm assuming you do have an ignition key. It also depends on if you want to pay a service call for a locksmith or take him a lock to bench service. (MUCH cheaper)
'92 up to 96 1/2 had rectangular headed key for ignition/door and oval (round) headed key for tailgate.
-----If that's your case, have a locksmith make a key from the tailgate lock; or take the lock to him; or replace it with a new or used unit with a key. I doubt this scenario fits your year.
Prior to that, 82(?) - '91 ignition was square and doors/tailgate/glove were round.
-----If that's your case, have the locksmith make your key. Easiest way is to pull a door lock and take it to him.
From '80-81 Igniton/doors were square and tailgate and glove were round. ...gonna need to pull the tailgate lock.
As stated 78/9 were all same key (square)
Early were same single sided key for everything except the liftgate.
