I am going to put in a sliding rear window from a mid 80s truck and just had a question on the weatherstriping. Does it matter if I get the weatherstriping for one listed for 73-79 or 80-96. They should be all the same right?
I would think there is a difference since the body style changed but you would have to check some part numbers and see what years they were used through.
I replaced my back window with a window from the junkyard with an 89 model window. the windows will fit 73-96, but everything I've seen or read said to get the weatherstrip with the window. it fits great...so I'm sure that the 80-96 window seal would work fine...only makes sense that if the window for that time fits that the seal to the window would too...but then again...you never know ...I'd get the newer version to get a better seal...just my 2 cents.
but everything I've seen or read said to get the weatherstrip with the window
I'm not sure I understand that statement. Can I use an early model 73-77 window with a later model weatherstrip or are you saying if you use the late window use the late seal?
Sorry, just running mentally slow this morning, gotta go back to work after long weekend!
There are 2 leak spots when using pre 80's rubbers.
A person needs to tape this area on both sides for better sealing.
I am going to be reinstalling my 77 F150 rear glass soon with a new 77-style rubber gasket. Where are the 2 leak spots you are talking about and what type of tape are you supposed to use and how should it be applied? Thanks.

before I went to get my back window...I did quite abit of research online....everything that I could find said as long as you have the weatherstrip from the donor window there would be no issues with fitting anything from 73-96 in our trucks. However, most places sell that sell the weather strip replacements do so with a strip for 73-96 trucks...so..I really don't think there is an issue. If you have a chance to snag the seal and its in good condition, then I'd go ahead and use the one from the donor vehicle. Mine was in great condition and I got the window out of the donor without messing it up...so I reused it. I wouldn't imagine there would be problems using either a newer or later strip. but if you've got the new window...why not use a newer strip? I agree with Million...the newer strip looked like it would do much better at sealing the cab.
Is the problem due to where they overlap two sheet metal sections and you are covering the overlapping metal with the tape? I do have a rusted area on the lower corner area on the DS I need to fix. I'm wondering if I could fix the issue by welding the seam completely in this area rather than the factory spot welds that Ford used?
The to corners of my 78 are leaking. I have an aftermarket sliding window and new rubber. I've been trying to figure out a way to seal it without removing the window.
i have a sliding window with a window gasket that i bought from jc whitney about 5 years ago. In the first truck that it was in the gasket fit pretty good. except for the bottom right hand corner. It did not leak, so i did not worry about it. i pulled the window out and put it in my 79 and the gasket fit is bad. does not fit at all in the bottom outside corners. It leaks bad now.. i have gray duct tape covering it for now..
Who do you recomend that sells a good window gasket that would cover the bottom corners of the cab, completely. If possible, could i see i picture of the window that uses the 80-96 windowgasket.
before i forget the first truck was a 78 f-250 custom
