I'm starting to have a problem with my 04. This has been going on for about a month, but only about 75% of the time. It will cold start fine and run fine, but if I restart it after sitting for 10 min or as much as 2 hrs, it smokes a lot of grey, and runs really rough. I thought maybe it was the egr, so I pulled it and cleaned it and didn't plug it in BTW: the egr wasn't very dirty. The truck still has the same symptoms as before, dirty egr vs clean, egr plugged in vs unplugged. I'm starting to suspect that I have a fuel injector that is hanging up and leaking fuel into the cylinder. Anyone have any ideas? Also the truck has the inductive heating flash, and I have removed the flashpac and have not used it in over three months. Thanks for your input
Sounds like a leak in the HPOP system, could be bad check valve, broken/cracked fitting. You need to take it to a qualifed 6.0 tech and have them diagnose and fix the problem. This is covered under the 5/100k engine warranty.
Have there been many problems with the 03-04 HPOP's, I only seem to read about 05+. I have just over 50,000 miles and I will take it to the dealer, I was just looking for some info before I took it in.

The 05 are the most common with a STC fitting failure but other HPOP components in all year 6.0 can fail and cause the same symptoms.
Well I took my 04 in this morning for the above mentioned issues. Just heard back from my service rep that I have 3 bad injectors, and a bad EGR. He told me that they should have the problem fixed by tomorrow afternoon...just in time to install my xcal 3 that I ordered from Matt yesterday! What causes the injectors to go bad? I dont run any fuel supplements, maybe I should...
