I have searched all over the Net and I can't find the weight of a 48 Flathead Six. I am doing some number chrunching for my Street Rod built 48 F1 and have everything but the weight of the six that came in the pickup.
Thanks for the help but still no luck. I am trying to do a match up as close the torque max. for my rear suspension, engine and choice of transmission. I know that the original F1 has a curb weight of 3,120 Lbs. Just can't find the weight of the original 6. I am replacing the 6 with a stroked 351M. This weight is 575 Lbs.
According to the chart on the page John listed a flathead V-8 weighs 569 pounds.
In the book "Standard catalog of Light-Duty Ford Trucks, 1905-2002",
the difference between a '48 -50 F-1 chassis with a six and one with a V-8 is 40 pounds. Making the flat six about 530 pounds.
One interesting note, according to this book, while the weight differences between the 6 & 8 cylinder trucks stayed the same, the overall weights between the years changed. I wonder what was added to increase the weight.
