Yeah this is a stupid question but I'm still getting used to this truck after having a 2000 model for so long.
I just changed the oil and I could have sworn it takes 12 quarts but it took 14.
Is that right? Yes I did put in 12, start it and let it sit for about 10 minutes before checking and adding.
I was wondering if one of the gallon jugs, or all of them were short or something.
Yes, 14 is right; 15 with a filter change. You did change the filter, didn't you? And before you put on the new filter, you filled it with oil first, right?
Thanks, I just found my engine book about the same time you were typing. It says 14 with the filter.
I did replace the filter too. I went different this time than I have been though. I hope this filter is a good one. It's one of the fancy fram extra guards or whatever they called it. I never cared for that brand before but it looked better than the motorcraft and all the others walmart had on the shelf.
I started using the new 5w40 mobil 1 also. I'm already getting great mileage but this shouldn't hurt. I have already run up 60,000 miles this year though. I need to try stretching out those oil changes some.
