eclipse sirius ecl1

anyone install this unit? i have the avn 5510, and want this tuner. the installer i used for the radio is very difficult to tie down....several appts over last few months not upheld. i can buy the unit fairly cheap on ebay, but the install concerns me, as well as the antenna placement. but if anyone here can confirm through experience that install is fairly easy. i may attempt it. tia.

I have it in my truck. Installation is easy. All you have to hook up is a power/ground, run a "din" cable from the tuner box to the radio, and run your antenna. You should be able to do it yourself. Since you have the Eclipse in there already, your power will be the yellow (constant) wire on the radio plug and ground is black. If I recall correctly the din cable is directional so make sure it is going the correct way. You should be able to do it fairly easily, when I used to install we would tell the customer about 1.5hrs to install but it usually took about half that time depending on vehicle. You should be able to get it done in under 2hrs if never done it before.

As far as the antenna. I have mounted them in the front center of the windshield and in the back. In my opinion it looks better mounted in the rear of the vehicle, less visible. Easiest way to do it is when mounting it in the rear is stick in in the center on the roof and then lift up the weather stripping and run the wire underneath it to prevent a water leak in the car, then just get a flat type tool (ie plastic putty knife) and just run the wire along the panel lines and tuck it in. The easiest way will be to run it along the roof line then when you get to the front of the vehicle run it down the door weatherstripping and attach it to the tuner box.

thanks for the input. i was thinking of mounting it on the center dash for ease, but it may clash with all the other stuff(fastlane, sunpass, valentine1).

I usally put the box underneath the passenger side carpet. Haven't had one issue with it and have put tons there. You may have to extend the power/ground but the din cable should be long enough.

i want to keep it somewhere near the center console because i have an eclipse 8 disc changer i want installed in place of the oem changer that doesn't work with the head unit. i found a place that will install it for about $130, so i may just go that route and save myself any headaches.
