As the title saids, I have a very loud hard clunk when shifting into reverse sometimes ,is this the u- joints starting to go bad? The tranny is a E4OD.

It's time for new u-joints, the old ones are history.
Definately...that way you can regularly push the dirt out with new grease....Luck

Non-greasables have a better seal that prevents the grease from getting in in the first place (not 100%, but better than greaseables). I've heard that a quality non-greaseable ujoint is a safer bet than the greaseables, and would last longer without need attention. Flip side is that once it DOES need attention, you have to just replace it instead of relubing it. I read this on a 4x4 site and also was told by I believe it was Andym
My 96 f-150 does the same thing. Even when the drive-train is switching direction, reverse to drive, then i get on the gas and hear it. from park to reverse as well. I've always been told it was in my transfer case, but theres play in my driveshaft. I've never really been to worried about it. I'm gonna rebuld my motor first lol.
