My '99 Powerstroke finally gave me warning that I have put off replacing the CPS for to long. Cruising along at about 60 MPH there was a violent but quick
shudder and then everything seemed fine. Really bothered me and I was uneasy until I made it back home that evening. Called the local Ford dealer yesterday morning, I am 90+ miles from the nearest International parts dealer, and to my surprise he said there had been a drastic price reduction. He said the part is less than $28.00. I told him to pull 2 and I would be right down. For $59.99 I
got out the door with 2. A new one installed and a spare and the tools for roadside replacement in the tool box. Quicker cold starts and smoother idle. I
had never changed one before and it took longer then the 10 minutes I have seen posted but 30 minutes later it was installed and the truck was idling smoother than ever before. If you don't have a spare and your local Ford dealer is a lot closer then an International parts dealer then now is the time to get that spare CPS you my have been putting off.
Ya know what gets me is that the CPS was/is a known issue with the F150's, 250 etc and has been for many years...you think Ford would of fixed that by now. Hmmmmmm. Ah well...I got my spare!

I was looking at a thread from early 2006 that had almost 400 posts about the Ford black CPS and the International blue CPS and which was best and why. There was never any real conclusive proof that one was better than the other. Well guess what? The 2 CPSs I got yesterday are grey. Go figure.
They did fix it. Why do you think the CPS is not a problem anymore on the 6.0 and 6.4? lol
The CPS at $28 is a little steep in price. The local Ford dealerships HERE have it for $15.
If I wanted to drive 85 miles one way to another dealership in Phoenix, or Flagstaff, or Prescott I to may have gotten a better price. Payson is a very remote small town and not only do I know that but so does the local Ford dealer. They know they got ya. I didn't want to go the internet route because I wanted to get it fixed as soon as possible. The 26 bucks I could've saved going to the next closest Ford dealer or International dealer would have gone right out of the exhaust pipe, twice.
