Some days I have to wonder why I do this to myself- I recently bought a 68 eb that is all there, but looks like it sat under a tree for the last 20 years. It has 170 I6, three on the tree. My goal is to see if I can get the motor bumped over enough to get a compression check to see what I actually have. The truck did not have a key- no speedometer. The good- looks like most of the wiring is intact and not in to bad of shape- I have seen worse. I bought a new ignition switch- and can not get the new key barrel to drop in? There has to be a trick? Also- I replaced the voltage reg, battery, selinoid. Today I am going to replace the coil, starter, alt. From there I was going to trace backwards from the battery to the switch. Where should I start- I side of the selinoid? Should be hot all the way to the switch- right?
You have to insert new key into new lock and with a paper clip pushed into the little hole turn the key to acc and the farther ccw. With it in that position, insert into the ign sw hole. Then release the paper clip and turn to normal position and u should be good to go.
