I did something I had never done before. I paid to have some work on the front brakes on my '03 Supercrew. The years are catching up with me.
I was charged $312 to have the rotors turned, new pads, new seals and grease. This seems like a lot of money.
It took a little over 2 hours to do. The place I had it done has a good rep. I have bought tires there before. Also he used only an air wrench to tighten the lug nuts. Before, when I bought tires there, they went over the nuts with a torque wrench. Not this time tho. Did they have a air wrench they can set for a specific torque?
Was I overcharged?

if you cant do it yourself than you have to pay new rotors should be about 70.00 ea and a set of good pads 60.00 givr or take. dont get me wrong you can get the parts alot cheeper but im thinking worst case. im not sure what seals thet could have done. you should have used you pals here at fte to get the job done right, thats why we are all here.
shops these days charge $60-75 per hour, so half your bill was labor. Thats probably reasonable if you check with people who have their work done. I normally do myself and dont know what charges are "normal" these days.
Well...they do have "torque sticks" that they can put on the impact gun (looks like an extension that is color coded for a certian torque range), and it will get the lug nuts in the relative range of a true torque wrench. If you have a torque wrench at home, I would double check them for peace of mind...
yea not sure either...i do everything myself on my truck...only time i took it to a dealer was when i put my new 3.55 gear set in and needed the bluuing pattern set and the proper mesh with shims and stuff....i paid $295 to have the gears and carrier installed....but it was well worth the peace of mind....and not having to buy the special tools.
Tightening lug nuts down with a impact wont hurt them usually, unless you use a very powerful impact. At work (countys fleet program) we tighten all vehicles lug nuts down with impacts, and dont have any problems. Its better to tighten to the torque specs, but an impact will work fine.
I think it is a little high but different areas have different labor rates and prices. From what I remember when I got all 4 brakes done on mine it was around $200 or less but I did not have the rotors done. I did them myself a few years later and am not sure what turning them costs but $20ea. sounds like more than enough to me.
Really depends on the quality of parts and if they did it the way it should be done. A buddy of mine runs a shop he's high but he's a perfectionist he doesn't use cheap autozone parts and goes the extra mile.
I've seen some shops that do cheap brake jobs and to tell the truth I wouldn't trust them at all.
