Distributor Problem?
I've got a 302 topped with the intake, wiring, computer and distributor from a '90 crown vic. It won't idle properly. It intermittently stumbles and stalls at idle. Runs well over 1000 rpm. I removed the distributor and found that the part of the PIP or hall effect magnet or whatever that thing is under the vane wheel is hitting the wheel as the vanes go past. I really wouldn't think these parts should come into contact. The distributor shaft doesn't seem to be wobbly in the housing, but the hall effect pickup seems kind of loose. Has anyone run into this before? Any help is appreciated.

Upon disassembly of the distributor I discovered that I had cracked the piece that is pressed onto the shaft between the housing and the gear. I stupidly pressed against the housing when installing the new gear instead of removing the rotor and pressing against the end of the shaft. I knew the way I did it was careless but figured that I would notice if I caused any damage. Live and learn :-) Now I have a cardone reman distributor that some guy in mexico carelessly assembled, haha.
