I need to replace my door lock actuators....only 1 door out of 4 works off the power button. The other 3 just go up and down a few mm's but not enough to unlock or lock things.
I took the Door panels off to try and replace them, but for the life of me I cant figure out how they come out without breaking everything.
To make life even better the hole you access them from behind the panel is just big enough for my 2-yr olds hands to get inside.
You don't have to replace them. There is a fix detailed in the forums where you replace the thermistor in the actuator's motor with a conductor and they work fine again. It also tells you how to get the actuators out of the door. I'll search for it and post a link.
cheap, easy and best fix is like i did. I bought 4 after market ones for ~$20. I wired them in and left the stock ones in place. I put them in a real easy place to get to in case they ever need to be replaced.
I just did one of mine a few weeks ago, the fix above works wonders, but getting those stupid things out is a project. I could do it quicker now that I've done one though for sure. Once the panel is off, unbolt the latch from the door. There are 3 (I think) metal rods for the lock and handle mechanism you need to take off. Each attaches differently, you just have to sorta figure it by looking at them. I found it way easier to take the door handle off too. That, in combination with a lot of tool-chucking and swearing, worked for me lol.

Before I dive into the above fix, I just want to make sure I have the same problem. My passenger side makes a ratchet/machine gun sound when going up or down. Kind of like gears are stripped or teeth missing. Do your guys make this sound when your actuators are acting up? Will the motor fix, fix my problem? Thanks
Much appreciated.....wow over 10 pages. I know it will tell how to get them out in there somewhere (plus the fix)
A little advice also. You don't need to take the entire assembly out of your door. Just remove the 3 main bolts. then the Outside handle rod and the actual lock rod. Leave the inside cable on that one is a pain to remove and you don't have to anyways. Remove the power and then just slide the plastic houseing off of the metal contraption. It slides right off. Then you can do the repair and just slide it back on. It took me about 25 mins to do all for of my doors.

Either your gears are stripped or the caseing that holds all the gears and motor together has split appart. And the gears are slipping. Don't be scared to get in there and look. These fords are super easy to work on. Yank it aparts and sneak a peak.

Thanks, just wanted to get a heads up on what's going on. I might just get a new actuator before tear down.
