Thumbs down downpipe wont fit help!!

Ok Im really getting tick right now I just got an aftermarket downpipe from diamond eye manufacturing I just had the tranny out and thought that now would be the time to change the down pipe as it is much eaiser to cut and fold that firewall flange down with know tranny. I changed this same down pipe on a 94 1/2 powerstroke with a 5 speed and all went fine. My new truck is a 97 also with a 5 speed. I thought (possibly stupid me) that If I waited tell after I put tranny in to install the downpipe it would be eaiser to access tranny bolts but now the trannys in and when I try to slide the down pipe in from the top it does not seem to matter how I work it it hits the bell housing and will not go throgh. Are the firewalls diffrent on 97's then on 94s? Any help would be greatly appreaced as I really don't feel like pulling the tranny again just to get the pipe in Thanks a bunch

No the firewalls are all the same. Is your pipe a two piece? I think all of them are. if so you need install the top half from above and the bottom half from below.

I installed my DP on my '97 5 speed at the same time I did the clutch. I put in my DP with the trans out but it shouldn't make a difference. Put the top piece in first then the bottom. Do you believe I got my old DP out in 1 piece. I wish I had a pic of that.

mine is one piece, i have never done a 2 piecer before, on any 94-97, 99-03 or 03- now trucks. they have all been one piece and i have never had a problem doing it from the bottom. even removal of the old ones is done in one piece

How in the world do you remove it in 1 piece. I about had to roll my engine all the way back and then front to get mine out and the trans was out too. You must be magic. I kinda figured that of you anyway. HaHa.

i cut mine in THREE pieces!!! i thought that if i cut the bottom it would be able to slide up... nope... so i cut the top and the middle section fell down and i pulled the 'cobra head' out from the top... my new DP was also 2 piece!!!
