Okay last night i instaled the 10k mod and laid a 10 footer in mcdonalds parking lot in 2nd gear not even trying. i wired this mod in with a trailer connector and made a stock one also. I havent run this mod for more than five minutes because i dont have any gauges. which i plan to get tonight. i was wondering what the cel is, and what does it mean when your pump runs dry, That means bad news right? And if i was to upgrade to a 20k mod because i bought a pack of 10kmod resiastors and have a few extra would it be cause any type of damage to anything? i have also heard of a variable resiastor mod not really sure where to get one of these and is it possible to wire this mod up somewhere in the cab. bc its kinda imbarrasing when you have to pop your hood and plug in your ghetto looking connector(10kmod) to race someone.
If your not towing heavily or often you should be fine. CEL=check engine light,if your getting the cel on this mod that means 1 of 2 things typically.
1 bad connection
2 the hpop-high pressure oil pump is maxing out the amount of pressure it can handle which varies pump to pump, this pump is what pushes the fuel out of the injectors.
As for the variable resistor (potentiometer) it's not worth the headache I took mine out it just adds to many more connections just us whatever varieties of resistors in series that your pump will handle 14k-16k is typical on stock hpop. Some are getting higher. Hope that helps.
I'm running the 10 K will big nozzles and a intercooler and I rarely see over 1000 egt when not loaded. But the big difference is the intercooler and the fact that its getting colder out.
Shouldn't have any problems playing. I'd watch it when towing or pulling up long hills.
i run a 22k resistor inline with a 5.6k resistor in the plug. i only see the check engine light if i lug it down really bad or if i get 'er runnin' about 85 mph. i think what is making the difference here is auto tranny and manual tranny. i say that because the auto tranny shifts and leaves the engine at higher rpm's and doesn't give the HPOP any kind of a break because your not letting off the go petal. with a handshaker you are letting off the go petal to shift gears, which is also letting the HPOP slow down quite a bit. somebody let me know if this is making sense. when you keep working the HPOP hard non stop, then it sets the CEL like when i lug mine down and it takes a bit to get up to 2300 rpm then it sets the CEL and when i'm trying to get going 85 mph i'm not letting the HPOP slow down with results in a CEL. oh yeah and for what its worth i don't have guages yet either. technically you can only melt your pistons if they see EGT's of 1250* for like 25-30 seconds or something like that. that number goes down the more the EGT's rise. i run the hell out of mine and have no problems, but i'm letting off of it to shift gears too, which also lets the EGT's go down momentarily. sorry bout the long post.
That does make sense about the hpop catch yp when your shifting gears. However, I don't know if it would be long enough for it to completly catch up. If I remember correctly 1250 is still pretty much safe. It's the shots about 1300 that will bit ya.
i had the 10k mod done coons way to my truck and it started dying on me surging when i drove it i removed the mod and the truck was fine never had a cel could this happen if the resistor had a bad connection
Mine starts good too, it just runs like crap til it warms up,sucks the fuel back too, today it was -13 that is still not as cold as it will get this winter, I like this mod ,It works good, just not in cold weather,at least not with my truck,
HA HA up north on the tip of lake superior ,you don,t have to tell me about how they don,t run good cold I think I would know look where I live, and i,m not disin your mod I like it alot just not in my cold truck,it runs better without the mod I guess every truck is diferent
When it is warm it runs awsome with the mod ,on the other hand when it is cold it surges, and has this funny flat spot whe n I take off from say a red light, not only that the tail pipe was wet with fuel, today I ran the crap out of it down the highway to clean it up without the mod ,It ran awsome and when I looked at the tail pipe again it was dry, normal looking again,I was talking to you before about this kinda thing when I had that superchips tuner It did kinda the same thing,in the cold,I just changed my glowplugs and relay, and usualy I don,t plug in till it gets a bit colder, like I said It starts fine,I will plug it in tonight whith the mod in and see if that changes things and it prob. will but tell you the truth thats just extra cost,on top of the already expensive cost of driving this awsome truck, like I said the mod is great, but I think I will put it away for the winter,or maybe try a potentiometer, but I dont know how to wire one up
