Ok guys my machine shop said $700 to rebuild the heads. I beleive they are fine but should I do it ? He said the tubes in the injector ports leak often. Have you guys heard of this ??? He said he's boring everything .030 over. I'll get yall some pictures as i go. I'm going to paint it pretty like tj's. lol Thanks, Desy
How hard is it to replace the cups. It's been awhile since i've had any machine work done but 700 for head rebuild seems high ??????
Maga flux .. lap or grind the valves. guides can be expensive milling Or not..
this is why all the rest of us do our own,,, to be sure were paying for what is needed.... & can decide for ourselves what we can live with..The machine shop can't take the chance with someone elses stuff......( getting bitched at later)....
The head on my case needed milling 10 thousandths, I carried it in,, 150.00....
Hey before I forget guys I'll share something I realized. When I first found bent pushrods and broken lifter retainer on this engine, I removed the head and had it checked/ milled flat and replaced it. When I just tore down the engine for the rebuild I noticed the two low compression cylinders had a thicker carbon ridge at the top of the cylinder wall than the rest.(Bent Connecting Rods) So the point is if you just look at the wear ridge formed at the top of the cylinder wall you will know if the piston was going all the way up. If I would have know to look for this I would have yanked the engine 10 months and 500 dollars ago. I hope this helps somebody one day.
700 for two head jobs sounds expensive, but I hear the guy is good. LOL. I'm gonna have to do it because I don't want to have to pull that coffin out from under the hood later. I ordered rebuild kit today. Thank You Guys, Desy.
if he is replacing the valve springs have him put the comp cam 910-16's in it. They are less then $100 and are stronger than stock. Well actually what are plans with this motor? if you are going to do nothing more than a chip don't bother. if you may do injectors later go with those springs.
Tim, I'd love to hop-up the crap outta of it but as you see in the picts in might be a tad unproductive as I have gone great distances to get people to see it. See the picts in my gallery. Thanks, Desy
