Rear Step Bumper Keep or Trash?

My 78 had a bent, white and slightly rusted rear step bumper. I straightened it with a loading dock and a tree, I treated the rust and sanded well. After several coats of silver spray paint and two coats of clear coat sealant, it looks just like the factory "silver" finish.
I have had several people comment on how well preserved the rear bumper is. I just smile and let it ride...
