Question about the CCV Mod

I was wounder if you can just run a hose all the way to the back of the truck and let it vent out there insteasd of making a cup to hold it. What sise hose do I need and what kind of right angle piece do I need. Where can I get all of this suff to do this. Also what are the risk of doing this mod. I dont want to blow seals.
Thanks,
Nick

I think that was the early CCV mod. Seem to recall something about smell and driping leading to the catch-can.

Most of us just do just that. I have mine crossing over at the rear axle so it vents near the exhaust after going up over the brake master cylender. Not that big of deal. Never any drips and not that much of a smell unless you stick your nose in the passenger side rear wheel well. I used 5/8s or 3/4 heater hose (can't remember exactly now), but if I were to do it again, I'd get some of that clear stuff from Home Depot or Lowes so I could see if there was any pooling in low spots. There are many ways to skin this cat, so do what you think will work best for you, don't have any kinks, and make sure it's always sloping away from the engine.

So from what I hear 1 inch hose is the best and you want clear hose to see if there are any thing stoping the flow in the pipe. Can I get all this stuff at the Home Depot or a hard ware store,
Thanks,
Nick

Ultimately, the clear hose may end up cracking, because it is only vinyl. That said, it is what I used so I could see how things are going. Once I read about folks experiencing frozen up CCV hoses and not being able to know where it was frozen, I decided to go the clear vinyl route and perhaps change it out every 2-4 years. It is readily available at either Home Depot, Lowes, or other hardware store.

See post #12 of this thread for a link to the hose that I recommend. It will not kink or degrade. I've had one laying out in the sun for 9 years with the waste from my black and gray holding tanks flowing through it, and it's still as good as new!

If you keep the existing rubber elbow that comes out of the doghouse, a 3/4" pvc hose nipple and a 3/4" vinyl hose will work. They are both available from home depot.

Depending on which oil you're running, you'll get different amounts of smoke and different odors from the CCV.
