supposedly a certain computer code, i think its ADO1 or something like that, defuels after 22psi. So if you get a regulator Neal, set it at 20lbs-ish and you should be good to go.
There's alot who dispute the OBS 7.3's defueling but alot have had it happen to them. The idea about it is that there are certain PCM codes that do it so not all may be affected by this plaque but the regulator is the best way to find out. Im gonna do it this weekend and see if it does anything for me.
The defuel in the OBS have isn't like the Superduty defuel. On my truck it felt more like the rev limiter on a gasser hitting. But it wasn't near redline but boost was 30-33psi. Put in the regulator and it went away. Superduties will set a CEL most of the time and loose power until you turn off the engine and start it back up atleast I think that is the way it works on the SD.
I read on over on thedieselslop.com that our exhaust backpressure sensor can also trip a defuel pattern. So they do something called the doogle mod. Have you heard anything about it before?
The de-fuel dosn't occur in certain trucks with certain computer codes. The trail of computer codes affected by de-fuel is starting to form so shortly we should know what trucks have the plaque and which ones dont. Remember that a de-fuel wont stop the turbo from building boost past 22lbs(the point of de-fuel) as its not a wastegate or blow-off valve. I think my truck de-fuels as it feels weak when it starts seein boost numbers over 24lbs. So Im gonna do the regulator mod and see what happens. Tim, what regulator di you buy, where, how much, got a write-up on install and regulator tuning?
