I have a 99 f350. it has 4 inch turbo back straight exhaust. super chips programmer (highest setting). has factory turbo. only making 15 psi boost. adjusted waste gate valve to try and gain boost. replaced the turbo wheel with a xdp wheel. still only 15 psi boost. the truck runs flawlessly, just thought it should make more boost, cause more boost means more power!! Thanks
Welcome to FTE. We have a 99 - 03 7.3 diesel section located further down the forum listing. If you want to make the truck go faster, stop in there and ask questions. The only thing holding you back will be your wallet
First, the upgraded wheel will actually drop your boost 1 or 2 psi, but will help with surge. Your superchips probably doesn't make enough power to cause surge, but think of that as an upgrade out of the way if you decide to step up to a real tuner. There's a few custom tuners out there that for about the same price as a superchips, will run circles around what you have now. They're also a shift on the fly tuner, so if you want to cruise down the road in an economy setting, you can just reach down, turn the **** to a race setting, and punch it. No need to pull over and wait for the programmer to do it's thing. Check out Total Diesel Performance or DP-Tuner
Since you're reading boost pressure, does that mean you have a set of gauges? (boost, EGT, & tranny temp). You don't want to read boost pressure off the MAP sensor because the truck will defuel around 22psi, so you may need to stick a boost fooler in there later to get more power. Also a shift kit and bigger tranny cooler are a good idea.
Good news is you can install all this stuff yourself, and we can walk you through anything you've never done before.
In the mean time, check your up-pipes for leaks, and make sure the 6 boots on the Intercooler plumbing are tight. Those are 2 common sources of boost leaks.
First off, Welcome to FTE. You will get more response and knowledge down in the 7.3 section. Post your questions there, although I'm not, we have some turbo guru's that can answer your ?'s
Dang I type slow. Chris is one of the guru's I was talkin bout.
ok i'll post in there, didnt see that section, sorry lol. i'm reading boost pressure off of our snap on solis scan tool, i own an automotive repair shop. we do not specialize in diesels, but since this is my truck, i gotta have it running top. my buddy just bought a 06 dodge and we installed a bunch of aftermarket engine mods and that truck blows my doors off!!! but thanks for the help guys! oh and all the boots are tight on inter cooler, just had them off to replace valve cover gaskets, glow plugs, and the wiring harness. i also replaced all the boots cause they have 200,000 miles on them!!
