I have a 89 4.9 5spd..tfi ignition..Where is the distributor clamp bolt???...I cant seem to find it...Everything that im used to working on has a distributor clamp and bolt where you can see it...I do see a little hole is the side of the distributor shaft..what is that for? Also the timing mark in the pulley..is that square notch it?
Man I;m not sure about that little hole you are describing except for maybe a vent hole. There should be a hold down clamp at the bottom of the distributor shaft next to the block. A half inch wrench will loosen it.
There should be a long notch across the balancer which will be your mark. Hope this helps.
Hi, I am asuming you mean the clamp that holds the distributor from turning. The previous answer is correct . If you stand on the drivers side of the engine looking at the distributor it is at the base of the distributor assembly at the 9 oclock position. It is a metal clamp, actually it looks like a 3/8 inch thick one inch diameter washer or half of one for the lack of a better description , with a 5/16 bolt threaded through it into the engine block.
On my 90 there is what looks like a threaded hole in the engine block at the 6 o'clock position in the distributor boss. I have never investigated the hole but it lookd like one could put a bolt in it and it would act like a set screw in a pulley and hold the distributor from turning, that is if the hole is drilled through and threaded. You should be able to see or feel the hold down and bolt. It is not a clamp so don't look for a clamp. It is a hold dowm and bears down on a flange on the lower part of the distributor assy
