Welcome PS1350. Just curious as to why you're looking to get back in a Ford other than it's a better truck.

Welcome 1350. You'll find that the guys here really dont care whatcha drive. It's more whatcha know that matters or how you learn. But it is a plus to be in a SD.

Welcome to the Forum – Lots of good stuff to read in the TECH FOLDER! Answers a lot of questions!<O</O

<O</O
For starters – VERY, VERY IMPORTANT: CLEAN OIL AND CLEAN FUEL

Oil -
Use ONLY OEM or OEM style oil filters (which is made by Racor) - lots of threads on this.
Oil change at
<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com5000</st1:NumConv6p0> miles (drain water from your HFCM at this interval).
Oil type - Motorcraft
<st1:NumConv6p0 sch="1" val="15">15</st1:NumConv6p0>W-<st1:NumConv6p0 sch="1" val="40">40</st1:NumConv6p0> (diesel) works OK.
Most recommend that you choose a synthetic <st1:NumConv6p0 sch="1" val="5">5</st1:NumConv6p0>W-<st1:NumConv6p0 sch="1" val="40">40</st1:NumConv6p0> (in order of increasing cost: Rotella T Synthetic, Schaeffer <st1:NumConv6p0 sch="1" val="9000">9000</st1:NumConv6p0>, Mobil 1 Diesel, Royal Purple, many others, I only listed a few examples).

Fuel -
Get your fuel at high volume stations.
Fuel filters (two) - use ONLY OEM (which is made by Racor) and change every
<st1:NumConv6p6 sch="4" val="10,000"><st1:NumConv6p0 sch="1" val="10,000">10,000</st1:NumConv6p0></st1:NumConv6p6>.
Use a fuel additive, no alcohol, that de-emulsifies water.
I have just begun to add
<st1:NumConv6p0 sch="1" val="2">2</st1:NumConv6p0>% Biodiesel for Lubricity (along w/ Stanadyne).

Air -
Use ONLY OEM filters (which are made by Donaldson), no aftermarket.<O</O

Change when filterminder shows the need (in the manual). I change mine more often, but most say it is not necessary.

Operation -
Let it warm up for at least
<st1:NumConv6p0 sch="1" val="20">20</st1:NumConv6p0>-<st1:NumConv6p0 sch="1" val="30">30</st1:NumConv6p0> seconds before taking off.
Make sure you cool it down (Exhaust gas temps) after hard driving or towing

Reliability / Helpful Modifications -
GAUGES!
Coolant filter<O</O

Fuel filter (HFCM) drain plug upgrade<O</O
Fumoto oil pan drain valve
Oil bypass filter<O</O

ITP return regulated fuel system
LOTS - LOTS MORE if you have the $$'s
<O</O

Filter Part # rundown coming up in another post.

Well thanks for the welcoming guys! I am very glad to be here. I do know alot about the powerstrokes. i was working for a ford dealer when the 6.0's came out and got to see their weaknesses and strengths. Got to tear a 7.3 apart in my first 2 months there. was definately lots of fun. I do like the cummins alot. i didnt before but since i owned one, its pretty good, but man if only they were in a ford! I am into performance stuff, once i get my 6.0 im going to be trying some stuff out on it. and it should be fun. once the warranty's gone ill put a bigger turbo on, different heads, (and head bolts) and bigger injectors. Ive heard good things about this site, and its nice to see all the people on here. should be a great place to learn more and more about the wonderful powerstroke!!

glad to have you here powerstoke1350!
i got to tell ya, i had a 2004 6.0 before this truck and i liked it but it was in the shop every other day it seemed. great great power but i was getting way to frustrated way to easy. the great thing was the service, they always gave me another powerstroke to drive, and they were always keeping it and testing and testing. but 3 injectors and a head later..i gave up... (stupid) the dodge has been in the shop 6 times, and eachtime it seems i had to beg just to get a ride home!! I tried 3 different dealers. all the same. Cant beat that ford service!

yes and no, Matt makes the internals of the '03 fit the newer trucks and calls it an SS I believe he said it was. but they do not bolt on directly.
