Which I am guessing may delay the opening of the Open Air Garage. Thats not good because I am starting to have issues with my 302 stalling out at idle. I stop to put the truck in reverse, it stalls....it starts right back up but its a pain. maybe it just needs a tune up....It seems the idle is set at about 600rpm's but I watched it go down to 500 before it felt like it was going to stall...I gave it some gas to keep it running but its becoming a pain in the ****....
Check your Throttle Position Sensor. It may be off a bit causing your low idle issue. Nick has the same issue on his 89 Bronco. He just runs it by 2 foot driving the thing. All it takes to keep it running is to idle it up a bit and it runs fine.
Karl, can you narrow down the location of the throttle position sensor and give me an idea of what I might be looking for...a setting or something?? I am fairly mechanical but new to Ford's and especially the F150....
The throttle position sensor is located on top of the throttle body (under that plactic cover that your throttle cables go into). Look for the sensor that interacts with the butterfiles on the throttle body. That is more than likely your culprit. After you pull the cover off, adjust your idle up a bit with the screw and see if that helps out. If it does then the sensor is out ot whack.
Your parts are apart and waiting until March as you requested. We really don't have an area that I can paint them up for you. So, not sure if you want to make a trip up one day and pick up the pieces to clean them an paint them in a warm garage or just let them wait until later on. All I know is that as cold as it is, it would be futile to try to get paint to stick to that cold steel outside right now.
An update on Redneck Pride (aka the Ranger mudder):
Nick and Jeff got the donor motor out and we will be pulling it down to send out for clean up and machining. The body will go over to Lloyds house (the guy that owns and runs Mountain View mud bog) in 2 weeks where we will weld up the rear cab seams and the passenger door closed. Nick and I spent some time over at his shop this past Saturday looking over his S-10 Blazer for suspension ideas and came up with a good game plan. Now all we need to do is gather parts. I know that I'm supposed to be a Ford fan, but check out his run at Redneck Nationals in South Carolina:
That's a Chevy small block 408 in that thing. He has it set up so that it pulls the front wheels of the ground when it launches!! So he will be the big compition this year.
After further review, I never even looked. It hasnt happened since I did the last post and it seems if I slow down gradually, instead of trying to lock up a set of 36's, it idles down easier and doesnt stall out. This is nt a tried and true test yet but it seems to be working until I get to meet you guys and work in the Open Air Garage. Besides, I feel as if I would suffocate in my Closed Air Garage so I better be careful....
Later, Roy
P.S. It seems the weather is changing a bit and now I must start blending my love of my Ford truck with my love of woodsball paintball in the woods behind my house....
All right, I'm done playing and messing around!!! The date is set for the garage to open!!! Feb 9th I will be down in Stafford finishing stripping the Ranger of un-needed parts, wires, hoses, and lines. From there it goes to be de-greased as much as possible to get ready for the new motor and tranny to have a home. So if anyone wants to show up and help, hang out, or gawk at the retards shoe-horning a big block into a Ranger, have at it!! My plan is to also start stripping the suspension parts out to get the full size axles under it as well, so all the help we can find would be good to move those axles around.
The opening of the Open Air Garage and I am going to miss it. I have to make a run to Virginia Beach on Saturday so I will be unavailable for the grand opening. I would love to be there though.
Well. It might now have to be pushed farther. I am going down to pick up the 79 chassis that has the donor axles and front suspension links on Saturday morning. So, knowing that who the heck knows what time I'll be back and ready to start working on the thing. Too much do do, and time is really running short!!!!!!!!!!!
We'll be down at the "garage" this coming weekend. Satuday, we finally pick up the 79 chassis to get the donor axles out, and we should be back in the afternoon pulling that stuff out. Sunday afternoon, I want to start mocking the motor placement up and trimmng the motor plates so they give more room. Nick and Jeff have been busting their humps getting the rest of the un-needed parts out and gutting the dash. This is going to be close and I'm not optimistic that we'll have it completed for May, but it should be done by June.

May, June? What does that matter as long as you get it done just the way you want it? As for me, I'm waiting to see the end result, in between throwing parts at my own hunk o' junk. I'm sure it'll be done right.
Throwing parts at my junk. With ya'lls help, of course. ( I need a lot of help! ) I'll let you know when.
BTW. When we put in the cab mounts, the in cab tank needs to come out for access to the rear mounts. Any ideas as what to do with the gas? Any storage cans available? It'll need to drained out before tank removal. Just thought I should make you aware of that. ( it's always something, just my luck, I guess. ) Let me know of any ideas you may have.
