carb?

I would like to beef up a 302 in an f-150 not sure what year but I want to use a carb, the engine would have headers with 2.5exhaust, intake and a mild cam. I am wondering what kind and size of carb would be adequate for that combo and yet get good mpg, the carb preferably needs to be under $350. oh, and it will probably have a manual transmission.

I just recently got one for my Ranger's 5.0. Bought it second hand on Ebay. I took it apart, cleaned it out, changed the power valve (just in case) Put it back together and bolted it on. Works great. Motor is basically an Explorer 5.0 with a carb, same cam, but ported E7's instead of GT-40's. Sure could tell the difference between it and the 3310 750 it replaced. Like night and day.

What kind of mileage do you think I would get with the holley570cfm? I would like to get 12-15mpg but from what I've heard that isn't very likely, unless you have really low rearend gears and overdrive combined with a featherweight foot(whitch I DON'T have). Would the 570 be too much for just intake and headers/exhaust?

I can't tell you for sure what mine gets (my speedo turns backwards and is off a tad) but the one time I checked it it was close to 15 mpg. I've got 3.73's tires are 28" tall and no overdrive. The Explorer cam has a lot to do with it as well. Mileage usually depends most on your right foot.

Would the 570 work on a 351w with the same build? Could I get 12-15mpg with that set up? just asking because the 351w has more power(which I like), and I am finding some nice trucks with it.

Yea, the 570 will work on a 351 too. As for what the actual mileage will be, Nobody can tell you for sure, no matter whose or what carb you put on it.

Roughly how much power could I expect from the 5.0 and the 5.8 with 570 carb, intake, headers/exhaust and mild cam?

What intake, cam ? You're asking a vague question here. And headers/exhaust? What heads are going to be used?

intake-probably edelbrock performer, cam-mild don't know exactly what kind, headers-probaby heddman or flowtech full length. With dual exhaust and cherry bomb glasspacks, heads- stock until I can afford gt-40s, which won't be for a while.

Parts are always cheaper if you are patient... So keep looking for those gt-40 heads, patiently.

I don't have the truck yet, but I want to have things planned out before I get a truck, I'm looking at 80's and 90's f-1or250s with the 5.0 or 5.8 and preferably a manual transmission.
