Transmission ?

Looking for some help about the 4R70W truck transmission. Will a 2002 transmission work in a 1997 truck? Both transmissions are from a 4X4 F-150 with a 4.6 engine and both are the 4R70W trans.

Yes, it should work... make sure all the connectors are the same in the trannys...before you install the new one.... i think my speed sensor was a different hookup, so i just swaped it over...

Let me know how it turns out....... I'm thinking about installing a 5.4 in my truck at the same time I do the transmission. The only thing I can't do myself is the computer change.

ranger, if your doing the engine and trans, in a 97... you migh tbe cheaper to sell and switch to a 2002 with the 5.4 already... computer can be a pain.

That's the only reason I haven't done the swap already. I don't know anyone around here were I live who has got the computer part right. I've had the truck for over 10 years.... it's kind of hard to let go.

Computer is easy..just have to find a local shop with a dyno... most of them have the software that is needed.....just a reflash....
