warming up engine

This is a very basic question: I am new to owning a diesel 2003 F250 6.0L. How long should you let the engine warm up in the morning before taking off. I notice on cold mornings (30's or so) that i have very minimum power when i start it up and take off driving until the temp gauge gets up into the middle. Is this typical? Does it do damage to drive it when it is cold? Thanks!
Also I have the banks 6 gun speed loader (which another post i have others have said remove it) the turbo boost gauge typically shows less than 10psi unless i really get on the throttle then it goes up around 20 psi or so, is that normal? if i just leave it at setting #1 that is factory correct? that should not hurt anything if just let that way correct?

I'm sure some tech's will chime in, but IMO the only reason to let it idle is to get the oil warm and flowing well. So the length of warm up time would depend on temp. I am in So Cal so my temps don't get near as low as yours, but I warm up for 30-45 seconds, a minute max. I just drive easy until it is at full temp. If you are going to be letting it warm up for any length of time on a regular basis, I would certainly recommend the High Idle Mod. That way it will idle at a higher RPM and not be as likely to gum up the EGR and other such devices.

Pretty normal for me. You will notice minimal power and it will hold gears longer. I let mine warm up for about 7-10 mins in the morning but I have a remote start that idles the motor at 1000 RPM's. I don't know if that is normal with just a normal start, but you can get "wet stacking" if you idle your diesel for too long at low RPM's. I know lots of guys install the high idle mod that will bring it up to 1200 RPM.

it is very hard to diagnose what is normal and what is not over the internet.

but i noticed the same type of problem with mine on cold starts only and noticed a little smoking in the first mile. i took it in and they found two misbehaving injectors. now the problem is less pronounced but still does seem a little sluggish on cold starts but no more smoking.

is yours smoking in the first mile?
